How the ladder works

Ranked duels are one of the two ways to queue against another player. Every ranked duel moves your Rank Points, and enough of them move your tier: five numbered tiers per rank, from Bronze 5 all the way up through Diamond 1, and then Legend, which has no tier and no ceiling. Beating someone above you is worth more than beating someone below you, and losing to someone below you costs more than losing to someone above.

Reaching the top of a tier does not promote you on its own: it opens a promotion series you have to win, so a tier is never taken on one lucky duel. Falling out of one works the same way in reverse, which is why a bad evening cannot cascade you through three tiers. Normal duels are matched by a separate hidden rating and never touch the ladder, so you can try a new deck without putting your rank at risk.
